Choose the Best Cleanser for Your Skin Type

choose the best cleanser for your skin type

Cleansers are formulated as lotions, pads, foaming solutions and gels to name a few. This diverse array of cleansers also come packed with a multitude of ingredients, making it nearly impossible for consumers to sift through the clutter and determine what will work best for their individual skin types.

Here we offer a few quick facts and tips to remember when selecting your next cleanser.

Oily skin.
Shiny or greasy skin types require a cleanser with a low pH level (4.0 to 6.0 range), which is slightly more acidic than your skin’s natural pH level (5.5). Cleansers at this level are more effective at removing oil from the skin. Look for exfoliating cleansers that contain salicylic acid or TCA.

Dry skin.
Dry skin types that do not produce enough natural sebum should avoid products that contain harsh ingredients. Avoid using products that feature alcohol as one of the three first ingredients on the back of the label and look for products with natural moisturizing agents such as cream cleansers.

Sensitive skin.
Red or blotchy prone skin is extremely sensitive to certain irritating chemicals. Sensitive skin types should avoid cleansers with fragrances and parabens, and look for cleansers with all natural ingredients.

Acne Prone Skin
If you wear a lot of cosmetics or experience regular breakouts, look for cleansers that highlight makeup removal as one of the main functions. Choose an alcohol free cleanser with ingredients such as sodium sulfacetamide, or benzoyl peroxide, which can help simultaneously cleanse and clarify.

All Skin Types Including Normal, Combination Tip:
When choosing face wash that works best for your skin, the golden rule is to experiment with different cleansers and notice how your skin reacts. Try using at least three different cleansers for 30 days straight so that you can accurately compare which product your skin loves the most.

We like: Medpeel Pre Peel Cleanser
This cleanser is perfect for normal, dry and sensitive skin types because it offers mild exfoliating agents along with moisturizing ingredients as it cleanses. Use this cleanser prior to peels for best results.
