Learn to Apply a Chemical Peel At Home in 6 Steps

apply a chemical peel in 6 steps

Radiant Facial Peel Benefits

Applying a peel is simple and the beauty payoff is priceless. Chemical peels are so effective because of the natural acids that help buff the dead skin cells that sit on top of the face, clogging the pores and causing damage and discoloration. Over time, facial peels help smooth fine lines, lighten dark spots and contribute to minimizing the appearance of minor facial scars.

Here Skin-Peel offers quick tips and best practices for at home peel application to set you up for success.

Apply a Facial Peel in 6 Easy Steps
Step 1 Is a precautionary step. Remember that peels are made with different ingredients at different strength levels. Everyone’s skin is built differently and may react differently to each of these peels. To ensure gorgeous results, we recommend applying a small drop of the solution behind the ear three days prior to the treatment. You are free to proceed if the skin does not react negatively to this test.

Step 2: Wash the skin with a transparent gel cleanser and pat dry. Then apply the pre-peel solution using a cotton ball to ensure that it is properly cleaned.

Step 3: Apply a small amount of your peel of choice to a gauze pad and
smooth it over the desired area of the face, neck or décolletage. Avoid the eye
area, lips and nostrils.

Step 4: If you are only applying one layer, allow the peel to set in the skin for 3-10 minutes before neutralizing. If you are an experienced peel user or conducting a more mild peel, reapply the solution in multiple layers. Allow the solution to set for 3 to 10 minutes in between layers. (check the Skin-Peel guide for full details)

Step 5: Remove the peel by applying the Neutralizer Solution directly over the treated area. Rinse the remaining solution with cool water for 30 seconds. Gently pat the skin dry and apply the Medpeel Daily Collagen Complex to nourish the skin with anti-aging ingredients.

Step 6: Moisturize as needed after the peel and apply SPF 30 to protect the renewed and vulnerable skin from damage during the day.

You should not use a skin peel if:
1. You are currently taking antibiotics
2. You have a tendency to form keloid scars.
3. You have an immune system deficiency or disease
4. You are undergoing treatments chemotherapy and/or radiation.
5. You have been treated with a hair removal system in the past two days.

Choose the Best Cleanser for Your Skin Type

choose the best cleanser for your skin type

Cleansers are formulated as lotions, pads, foaming solutions and gels to name a few. This diverse array of cleansers also come packed with a multitude of ingredients, making it nearly impossible for consumers to sift through the clutter and determine what will work best for their individual skin types.

Here we offer a few quick facts and tips to remember when selecting your next cleanser.

Oily skin.
Shiny or greasy skin types require a cleanser with a low pH level (4.0 to 6.0 range), which is slightly more acidic than your skin’s natural pH level (5.5). Cleansers at this level are more effective at removing oil from the skin. Look for exfoliating cleansers that contain salicylic acid or TCA.

Dry skin.
Dry skin types that do not produce enough natural sebum should avoid products that contain harsh ingredients. Avoid using products that feature alcohol as one of the three first ingredients on the back of the label and look for products with natural moisturizing agents such as cream cleansers.

Sensitive skin.
Red or blotchy prone skin is extremely sensitive to certain irritating chemicals. Sensitive skin types should avoid cleansers with fragrances and parabens, and look for cleansers with all natural ingredients.

Acne Prone Skin
If you wear a lot of cosmetics or experience regular breakouts, look for cleansers that highlight makeup removal as one of the main functions. Choose an alcohol free cleanser with ingredients such as sodium sulfacetamide, or benzoyl peroxide, which can help simultaneously cleanse and clarify.

All Skin Types Including Normal, Combination Tip:
When choosing face wash that works best for your skin, the golden rule is to experiment with different cleansers and notice how your skin reacts. Try using at least three different cleansers for 30 days straight so that you can accurately compare which product your skin loves the most.

We like: Medpeel Pre Peel Cleanser
This cleanser is perfect for normal, dry and sensitive skin types because it offers mild exfoliating agents along with moisturizing ingredients as it cleanses. Use this cleanser prior to peels for best results.
