Does oily skin really need a moisturizer?

Many individuals with an oily skin type question whether they can skip the moisturizer part of their daily skincare regimen. The answer to this is yes, oily skin should especially be moisturized and here’s why:
Applications of moisturizers that especially contain certain types of oils can help reduce sebum production on oily skin types. Oily skin tends to be thicker than normal and have larger pores therefore the use of a moisturizer will give the skin a better texture. Most think the best solution to treat their oily skin is to cleanse the skin, but the truth of the matter is that the more an oily skin type overly cleanses their skin; the skin is stripped and will over- produce additional oil to compensate. The function of moisturizer on oily skin with the certain types of oils, such as tea tree oil; will essentially mimic the protective sebum gland environment on our skin therefore will reduce the oil that is overproduced over time. Oil production is a sign of lack of hydration in the skin and the oil that the skin produces is the skin trying to create a hydration zone for the skin. Moisturizers containing specific oils are beneficial for oily skin types to use as they balance the over production of oils and stabilize moisture levels over time.
