8 Tips For Clearer Complexion

1. GET MORE SLEEP!
My dermatologist told me about the link between sleep and acne when I was a senior in high school, but I always assumed my mother had slipped him 50 bucks to tell me that so I’d stop gabbing on the phone. And guess what? My recent skin problems didn’t start until I was in the throes of my blog redesign and averaging less than 5 hours of sleep a night. And since I’ve been continuing on that trend for weeks on end, it’s no wonder I look like a hormonal teenager.
2. CHECK YOUR BEAUTY PRODUCTS
Have you recently started using a new foundation or brand of blush? What about your facial wash? Is it new? How about your hair? Are you spraying copious amounts of hair spray on it? All of these things can contribute to a sudden increase in blemishes, so be weary when you try new products, and only introduce one new item at a time so you can pinpoint if anything in particular is giving you problems.
3. MOISTURIZE YOUR FACE!
The last time I had a bad breakout was about 2 months before our wedding when I was juggling florists, caterers, photographers, and wedding dress fittings while also holding down a full-time job. I remember feeling intense fear that I would look like a monster when the big day finally arrived, so I headed on over to our local pharmacy on my lunch break one day, and the gal in the beauty section took one look at my skin and said, “you don’t moisturize, do you?” I was shocked that she thought I should be adding lotion to my disgusting skin, but I have been applying moisturizer to my face ever since and it has made a huge difference.
Come to think of it, I ran out a few weeks ago, which may explain the sudden skin problems…
4. CHANGE YOUR DIET
I hate to break it to you, but anything that tastes good (think: refined carbs, fried foods, and chocolate) can cause you to break out. Don’t believe me? Then read Can Food Cause Acne? by YouBeauty.com and you’ll see why you need to throw the Ho Hos away and start snacking on celery sticks. Pronto.
5. KEEP YOUR HANDS TO YOURSELF!
A gal at a skincare booth taught me this trick. She had flawless skin, and when I asked what her secret was, she told me that she washed her face with regular soap and water and would apply certain amount of other products like the Hyaluronic Acid, Skin-Peels and other great products. Check out www.skin-peel.com for great skincare products.

6. DRINK MORE WATER
It’s no secret that water is the answer to all of our problems. It helps us lose weight. It boosts our energy. It makes us more regular. It flushes toxins out of our bodies. And it makes our skin look better.
It also makes us pee a lot, which isn’t ideal after natural childbirth, but that’s a post for another time…
7. STOP SUNBATHING
I used to think sunbathing was the solution to bad skin because the moment I spent any time in the sun, my skin always cleared up.
It was magical.
But then a couple of days would go by, and the excess grease the sun exposure caused inevitably made my skin WORSE.
And yet I never learned…
8. HIT THE SHOWER AFTER A WORKOUT
I don’t know about you, but I sweat like a man when I go to the gym, and if I go long stretches between workouts, I start to notice an increase in blemishes along my hairline and on my back. So I try not to slack on my gym routine, and I’m always careful to soap myself up as soon as I get home from a workout. Well, sometimes I shove a few handfuls of Cinnamon Toast Crunch in my mouth first, but that only takes a couple of minutes.

A Summer Recipe For The Winter - PiƱa Colada Sugar Scrub

As Summer gets closer to coming to a close, I find it important to make the most of what's left. Celebrate the days with outdoor picnics, trips to the beach, and long walks in the woods. By night, treat yourself to a little something tropical, like this creamy, pinapple and coconut scented sugar scrub!
Creamy Shealoe Butter gives this scrub a light, fluffy texture that you will totally fall in love with. We've scented this recipe with one of our new Plant-Based Fragrance Oils, giving it a sweet aroma reminiscent of indulgent frozen cocktails.

Creamy Pina Colada Sugar Scrub
Makes about 8 ounces
Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup Shealoe Butter
  • 10 tablespoons Organic Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Yellow Jojoba Wax Beads
  • 2 teaspoons Yellow Beeswax
  • 1 teaspoon of Pina Colada Plant-Based Fragrance Oil
Directions
  1. Melt the Beeswax in a double boiler. When the wax has melted, stir in the Shealoe Butter, then immediately remove the pan from the heat.
  2. Whisk the mixture as it cools, stopping when it is no longer hot. Add the Plant-Based Fragrance Oil, and mix well.
  3. Add the Sugar and Wax Beads, stirring well to fully combine the ingredients.
Usage & Packaging
This scrub looks great in our 4 oz. Flat PET Jars with White Lids.
To use, apply a few tablespoons to your skin and massage gently in a circular motion. This scrub is ideal for use as a body scrub, but would probably be a little too harsh for the face.

This is a summer essential:
- Helps control sun damage
- Eliminates sun spots
- Brightens skin & improves elastin production

7 Ways To Update Your Morning Beauty Routine for Winter

1. START THE DAY WITH A GLASS OF WATER

Moisturizing from the inside out is especially important part of your beauty routine for winter. Starting the day with a tall glass of lukewarm water (we’re big fans of infused water) will not only hydrate but also flush out toxins and give you an energy boost.

2. WAKE UP WITH EXERCISE AND AN ‘INSTANT FACIAL’ INSTEAD OF COFFEE

Coffee is a diuretic so relying on it for energy can dehydrate and age skin. A natural way to get the blood moving in the morning is with gentle exercise, like yoga or a short walk. Combine it with dunking your face in cold water and you’ll instantly feel awake and energized – not to mention getting brighter, tighter skin!

3. SWITCH TO A GENTLE CLEANSER

homemade body wash is easy to make and won’t dry your skin like most soaps on the market. And a bonus is you can tailor it to your favorite scent by changing the essential oils you use. For your face, a daily cleanser will gently exfoliate without drying out skin.

4. YES, YOU STILL NEED TO EXFOLIATE

A good scrub can do wonders for increasing the penetration of body lotions. This Salicylic Daily Exfoliator, exfoliates the outer dry skin cells and preps skin for the next and most crucial step of moisturizing.

5. USE A RICHER MOISTURIZER

You can make your own super rich body butter for winter, but we know not everyone wants to DIY. So when purchasing a store bought product be sure to check that it’s fragrance free because artificial fragrances may be irritating to your skin. This AmLactin Hydrating Body Cream is not only fragrance free, but also has alpha hydroxy acids in it, which will continue to encourage cell renewal while at the same time offering relief from dry skin.
Moisturizers are best applied to wet (think pat towel dry, not dripping wet skin). If you use this body lotion, you may notice stinging if you’ve recently shaved your legs, that’s because the alpha hydroxy acids are doing their job. Don’t be alarmed, just be aware.

6. DON’T FORGET TO PROTECT

The sun is still out in winter! So you should always apply a sunscreen after a body moisturizer to shield your skin from harmful UV rays. This Age Defy SPF daily cream can provide protection between SPF 30 and 40 depending on the type of skin you have and provides extra moisture to shield skin in winter.

7. EAT BEAUTY FOODS FOR BREAKFAST

Pick a healthy breakfast that delivers a dose of winter beauty foods. Try apple oatmeal, a pumpkin smoothie or a cranberry quinoa granola. And don’t forget, there’s nothing wrong with eating pudding for breakfast!
These morning steps can help combat the winter effects of dry skin by using alpha hydroxy therapy and hydrating our body. Do you have any favorite products that make an appearance during the winter season?
